Thomas Hiller’s journals were written in the later years of his life after he retired as a mariner and lived in various parts of Kent and London. They deal with family events, journeys to London, visitors, finances, shopping lists etc. interspersed with these day-to-day affairs Hiller writes with deep conviction on his Christian faith and the spiritual teachings of Emanual Swedenborg. His journals reflect this through strongly emphasised text and repeated phrases which read as heart felt words of devotion and prayer.
It appears he kept these books as a daily reference to his favourite spiritual texts and a record of his more worldly business.
The manuscript texts are being transcribed so they can be more easily read and understood.
